The History of the Porsche
Porsche is one of the most luxurious and well-known brands internationally. They have become a fashion statement and a status of wealth and beautiful design.
Ferdinand Porsche founded the company in 1931 in Germany. Initially, the company only focused on consulting and providing development work and did no work on any of their own cars.
Some of their early work was on building a new vehicle for Volkswagen. This resulted in the well known Volkswagen Beetle.
During WWII, Porsche produced some designs for heavy tanks but lost out on contracts to Henschel & Son. Ferdinand was imprisoned for over 20 months for war crimes but was never tried in court. During this period, his son decided to build their own car.
They created the first Porsche 365 model in Austria. Most people will say that the Porsche 365 was the first Porsche because it was the first vehicle sold by the German company.
Porsche saw success in moto racing but wanted to improve on its design. This came the birth of the Porsche 911 in 1964. This became one of the most iconic models and was very successful on the tracks.
The Porsche Carrera GT was named the Top Sports Car of the 2000s and became a prevalent model for them.
Volkswagen and Porsche have had a great relationship through the years. In 2009 Volkswagen reached an agreement with Porsche SE to merge the manufacturing operating of both groups.
Today Porsche is still making luxury sports cars and is seen as prestigious by many. It also dominates the luxury SUV market running against the likes of BMW and Audi. Porsche is now innovating and investing in electric vehicles. Their new Taycan 4S is a stunning electric sports car.
