KennCo Insurance has announced a major update to its requirements for car insurance, lowering the minimum age for drivers from 19 to 17.
This change, effective as of this month, opens the door for young drivers to access competitive cover earlier in their driving careers.
Previously, KennCo private car insurance policies were only available to drivers aged 19 and above. This change to policy criteria acknowledges the need for great value and reliable insurance for the 17 and 18-year-old demographic, who often find it difficult to secure cover starting out.
KennCo’s policy change applies to two main areas:
- Own Policy: Young drivers aged 17 and older can now take out private car insurance in their own name.
- Named Drivers: Parents insured with KennCo can now add children aged 17 and older to their policy as a named driver.
This move is part of KennCo’s wider commitment to support young drivers through education and safety initiatives, including their collaborations with young driver ambassador Brendan Tierney and Cars Ireland.
Noel Gavin, Marketing Manager at KennCo Insurance, commented on the change, “We’re delighted to be able to make this change and lower our minimum age limit from 19 to 17. We listen closely to our customers, and we know that for many families, getting a 17 or 18 year-old insured, whether that’s in a car of their own car or the family car, can be quite tough. We hope this change makes that process a little bit easier and helps the next generation get on the road safely.“
KennCo Insurance is a 100% Irish-owned company providing car, van, travel and home insurance policies for over 20 years. KennCo is dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service and supporting Ireland’s next generation of safe, confident drivers.
