The History of the Nissan
Nissan was founded in 1911. It was initially called Kaishinsha Motor Car Works by Masujiro Hashioto in Japan. They produced their first car in 1914, called the DAT. There was not much of a market in Japan for passenger cars, so they produced mainly trucks, mainly for the military.
Production restarted after WWI, and they manufactured cars and trucks under the name Lila.
In 1928 their holding company Nihon Sangyo was established. The name Nissan came from an abbreviation in the 1930s, used on the stock exchange. Nissan first built for the Imperial Japanese Army providing them with trucks, planes and engines.
Nissan and Ford shared models in Australia in a deal made. The Nissan Pintara was sold as the Ford Corsair and The Ford Falcon as the Nissan Ute.
Nissan faced financial struggles in 1999, and they entered an alliance with Renault.
Nissan is one of the world’s largest electric vehicle manufacturers. Their Nissan Leaf vehicles are one of the top-selling electric vehicles in the world. Nissan today are the 8th highest selling car manufacturer in Ireland.
