Q. Important Changes to Motor Insurance Policies – New Driver Number Requirement

A.

Effective 31st March 2025, the Road Traffic and Roads Act 2023 will require all customers to provide the driver numbers for each driver listed on a motor insurance policy. This new legislation applies to all new and existing policies, and you will be required to provide the driver number for both the policyholder and any named drivers.

Key Information:

Driver Number Requirement: To comply with this new legal requirement, starting from 31st March 2025 KennCo will not be able to process new or existing policies without having received all of the driver numbers for your policy. In order to prepare for this we are asking you to provide the driver numbers in advance of this date.

What is a Driver Number, and Where Can You Find It?

The driver number is a unique, nine-digit identifier on your driving licence that tracks your driving history. If you have an Irish plastic driving licence, you’ll find it in section 4d on the front of your card. For those still using a paper driving licence, it’s located in field 5. The important thing to note is that your driver number stays the same, even if you renew or replace your licence.

Q. Home Contents Calculator

A.

Use our convenient tool to calculate the total value of your home contents. Simply enter your estimated values in the fields below, and our calculator will add them up to give you an indication of the amount you should insure your contents for.

If you need assistance with valuations, we recommend checking receipts, current prices online, or consulting with a professional valuer.

Please note that you do not need to include the value of built-in kitchen units, wardrobes, or bathroom suites, as these are typically considered part of the building structure.

Home Contents Value Calculator

How do I calculate the value of my home’s contents?

To determine the value of your home’s contents, simply total up the worth of all the items you own. We’ve provided a helpful home content calculator to make this process easier. Just move from room to room, entering the value of each item into the calculator. The final amount should reflect the full value of everything in your home, ensuring you’re adequately covered.

Is a home contents calculator worth using?

Yes, a home contents calculator is a valuable tool. It helps ensure you don’t overlook any items when estimating the value of your belongings. By using the calculator, you can avoid underestimating the coverage you need, giving you peace of mind that all your possessions are properly insured. This is just a basic calculator to help you with your estimation. Please take time analysing your true contents value before using the calculator.

What happens if you underestimate the value of your home contents?

If you underestimate the value of your home contents, you could end up underinsured. This means that if you need to make a claim, your insurance provider may not cover the full cost of replacing your belongings. In this situation, the payout would likely only cover a percentage of your losses, leaving you to cover the rest out of pocket. It’s important to accurately calculate the value of your possessions to ensure you have adequate coverage in case of an unexpected event.

Have you ever used a home contents calculator to estimate the value of your belongings?

FAQ’s

Why is it cheaper to insure over 25s?

Drivers over the age of 25 are typically seen as safer drivers than younger drivers when it comes to car accidents. Their car insurance quotes may be less expensive. The stats around driving is that the risk decreases with age and experience on the road. You will most likely have built up your no claims bonus, which can help reduce the cost of your insurance.

I’m a new driver over 25. Will I pay less?

New drivers of any age are likely to pay more for their insurance as they are less experienced on the road, so there’s a greater risk of being involved in an accident.

You most likely won’t pay as much as you would if you were a new driver under 25.

When I turn 25, will my car insurance go down?

Car insurance usually goes down gradually from the ages of 21 to 24. It again goes down when you’re 25. Age is only one factor that insurers consider when quoting a price. Other factors outside of age still apply, such as the vehicle you drive, your record and other factors.

Is it cheaper for drivers over 25 if they have low mileage?

If you take your age which is over 25, and your low mileage together, it can be very beneficial for getting a cheaper insurance quote. Reducing your mileage is another way that you can reduce your insurance premium.

How else can you reduce car insurance for over 25s?

Type of car you drive

The type of car you drive has a big impact on your car insurance quote. The bigger the engine in your car, the more likely your insurance will rise. If you add modifications to your car, it will also be more expensive to insure.

Voluntary Excess

Taking out a higher voluntary excess will also likely reduce your insurance premium. It will be cheaper upfront but keep in mind you will have to pay more if you make a claim.

Security

By adding extra security features such as alarms, your car will be at less of a risk for theft or vandalism. Your insurer may lower your insurance premium based on this. Also, parking your car in a driveway or garage overnight has the same effect. Be sure to let your insurer know if you plan on keeping your car secure.
